Press Release

Blackfire™ wins another one!

December 14, 2010 New York, NY - The revolutionary Blackfire™Clamplight has been awarded the prestigious 2010 GOOD DESIGN™ Award. The competition, sponsored by the Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies, is the oldest and world's most recognized program for design excellence. This is the second major design award for Clamplight this year having won earlier an IDEA international design award co-sponsored by Fast Company and the Industrial Design Society of America. Clamplight was chosen by a jury of global design leaders, in a highly competitive program, with a record number of entries from over 48 different countries. In June 2011 The Chicago Athenaeum will mount an exhibition of the winners in Chicago.

The GOOD DESIGN™ Award is a further acknowledgement of the company position as "the innovation leader in the flashlight category". Said Bruce Ancona, Blackfire™ founder; "We are truly honored to receive this award. It is great to be recognized for a product that really make sense for consumers - making their work and play easier. It's one of those few products that once you try it you find it more and more useful and irreplaceable". Clamplight allows hands free usage when working by clamping to pipes, car hoods, tackle boxes and more. When there is nothing to clamp to Clamplight locks open to stand. The multi directional pivoting head, powered by a US made CREE LED, puts brilliant white light where the user needs it. It is unlike any other flashlight in the world. The design of Clamplight was a collaboration between Mr. Ancona and his former design firm A2. This Fall Blackfire™ has also introduced a more compact version of Clamplight called Clamplight Junior that has similar utility and fits in glove compartments, drawers and pockets. A number of other innovative Clamplight and non-Clamplight products are in development by the company.

The GOOD DESIGN™ awards program was founded in Chicago in 1950 with the participation of early modernism's preeminent designers including Eero Saarinen, and Charles and Ray Eames. GOOD DESIGN™ entries represent the most important and critical mass of influential and innovative FORTUNE 500 corporations, manufacturers and design firms worldwide. With the importance now placed on design, in achieving success in the marketplace, GOOD DESIGN™ has become a more competitive program each year. Winning criteria include both design aesthetics as well as innovation and functionality.
